Levy Restaurants

Levy Restaurants is a Chicago-based foodservice and hospitality company that specializes in dining and concessions for sports and entertainment venues. A wholly owned subsidiary of Compass Group PLC, Levy is widely regarded as one of the largest stadium hospitality providers in North America, serving more than 80 major venues across the United States, Canada, and Europe and employing an estimated 13,000 to 14,000 people globally.

About Levy

Levy focuses on providing food and beverage services in major sports, entertainment, and leisure venues while also operating a portfolio of standalone restaurants. The company serves 112 professional sports teams and operates at marquee venues including Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Soldier Field, M&T Bank Stadium, Stanford Stadium, Wrigley Field, United Center, and dozens of other NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL facilities. Industry estimates suggest Levy manages foodservice operations in roughly 30 percent of U.S. stadiums, underscoring its dominance in professional sports hospitality.

Historically, the company has organized its work around three principal divisions: the Restaurant Group (full-service and concept restaurants), the Sports and Entertainment Group (stadiums, arenas, convention centers, and attractions), and a Consulting and Advisory Services Group (concept development and advisory work for other operators). The Sports and Entertainment Group — the heart of Levy’s business — handles gourmet concessions and premium catering in luxury suites, clubs, and corporate hospitality settings at baseball, football, basketball, and other sports venues, as well as concerts, convention centers, zoos, and amusement parks.

History

Levy was founded in 1978 when brothers Larry and Mark Levy invested in D.B. Kaplan’s Delicatessen in Chicago’s Water Tower Place, drawing on recipes from their mother, Eadie. During the early 1980s the firm pioneered the concept of “fine dining in stadiums,” first providing premium foodservice at Comiskey Park for the Chicago White Sox in 1982 and expanding to Wrigley Field for the Chicago Cubs in 1985.

Through the rest of the 1980s, Levy moved beyond traditional restaurants into specialty catering and concessions, serving corporate suites and clubs at sports venues as well as cultural events like the Ravinia Festival. Walt Disney Company also selected Levy to create, own, and operate restaurants at Pleasure Island and Walt Disney World Resort, leading to concepts such as the Fireworks Factory and Portobello Yacht Club.

In August 1998, co-founder Mark Levy sold most of his interest and left to start an investment firm, ending a 22-year partnership with Larry Levy. In 2006, the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Compass Group PLC, the UK-listed contract catering giant, integrating into a global operation while retaining its sports-and-entertainment identity.
