There is no direct train from Manhattan to MetLife Stadium. The reliable public route is NJ Transit to Secaucus Junction, then a separate Meadowlands train that runs only for qualifying events. The ride back uses the same break. Plan both halves before you leave, because the last train from Secaucus to New York is a different schedule from the shuttle that clears the stadium.
This is the first guide in a short transit series. The downtown-Atlanta equivalent is Mercedes-Benz Stadium without a car.
Before you leave Penn Station
Buy the event ticket in the NJ Transit app and choose that date’s MetLife event. The agency says these tickets are valid only for the selected event day and activate on their own. Select Meadowlands as the destination. A barcode is what opens the fare gates at Secaucus.
Penn Station New York is at 32nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. Departure boards mark Secaucus trains SEC. Any NJ Transit train that stops at Secaucus works: Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Morris & Essex, Main-Bergen County, Montclair-Boonton, Pascack Valley or Port Jervis. You still change trains. Do not wait for a train labeled MetLife.

The transfer
At Secaucus, move to the Meadowlands shuttle. NJ Transit describes the ride from Secaucus to the Sports Complex station as about 10 minutes, and the station as steps from the stadium. MetLife says rail service for concerts and NFL games starts a few hours before the event and continues for a couple of hours after, when expected attendance is above 50,000. Smaller events may have no stadium train. The Meadowlands schedule page is the check for that date; a regular Secaucus stop is not the same thing as a Meadowlands shuttle.
The Giants’ current Know Before You Go page says wristbands are required for stadium-bound and returning trains. Keep any wristband issued by staff and read the advisory for your event; instructions can differ by date. This detail was checked October 31, 2026.
Getting into the building
Train riders are leaving at the Meadowlands Rail Station, not at a Manhattan-style terminal with a long walk across town. After the event, MetLife says guests reach that train from the MetLife or Verizon gates. If NJ Transit substitutes a bus between Secaucus and the stadium, staff direct riders to the boarding area, and the stadium says the travel time is about the same.
Coach USA’s 351 Meadowlands Express is the direct bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. MetLife says it starts two and a half hours before a game, keeps running until half an hour after the start, and operates for about one hour after the game. Drop-off and pickup are in Lot K, near the Quest Diagnostics Performance Center, reached from the MetLife Gate. That is a shorter operating window than the rail shuttle. Details are at 351express.com.
NJ Transit bus route 703 serves the wider complex, including the racetrack. On major event days it does not enter the Sports Complex from two hours before the event until one hour after. During that window it stays on Paterson Plank Road. Do not treat the 703 as a stadium bus on a Giants or Jets afternoon.
Accessible routes
MetLife’s public-transportation page does not publish a separate accessible timetable. It points guests to the stadium accessibility page for services, and the A–Z guide says accessible seating and services are handled there. The practical rail note that is published: the Meadowlands train is the event service, and after the event you leave through the MetLife or Verizon gates to reach it. Elevator status at Secaucus and at the stadium station changes, so check NJ Transit accessibility information for that trip the same day. Do not assume a taxi will be waiting at the rail station if a lift is out; the rideshare zone is a different lot.

Getting home
For a quick comparison of boarding points and return-service checks, see leaving MetLife Stadium.
Board a Meadowlands train back to Secaucus. NJ Transit says you must already have a ticket to board at the stadium. For NFL events, trains during the peak departure run at least every 15 minutes on a load-and-go basis until the crowd thins, then as needed. The start of that return service depends on the event time. The full timetable is at njtransit.com/nfl.
At Secaucus, transfer to a New York Penn Station-bound NJ Transit train. Evening events are the ones that strand people: the stadium shuttle can still be running after the last train you need from Secaucus to Manhattan. Check that connection before kickoff, not on the platform.
The 351 bus home is the tighter option. About an hour of postgame service is what MetLife publishes. Missing that window means the train, a prearranged car, or the rideshare zone.
Rideshare pickup is in Lot E, off West Peripheral Road, outside the Verizon Gate. The stadium warns that surge pricing is common after games and that waits can run past an hour. It specifically suggests mass transit for anyone going back to New York City. The phone has to last through that wait.
A private drop-off curb sits between lots D and E, which is a different point from both the train and the 351 bus.
What this guide does not cover
Parking prices, tailgate rules and which gate matches a seat section change by event. Use MetLife’s parking page for a car, and the stadium guide for the building itself. Food prices inside are not stable enough for a public list; the dining directory is the live source, and outside food rules explain what you can carry through the gate.
